Maine pitches into seventh as Mets win (AP)

With the Willie Randolph drama behind them, the New York Mets can finally concentrate on baseball — at least for a little bit. The Mets (36-36) took a step forward with a 7-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on Friday night, climbing back to .500 and giving Jerry Manuel his first winning streak since taking over for the fired Randolph.

Ubaldo Jimenez grew up in the Dominican Republic idolizing Pedro Martinez. On Saturday night, it was Martinez who did the admiring. Jimenez earned his first win in more than two months and Garrett Atkins and Brad Hawpe homered on Martinez’s first two pitches in the fifth inning, touching off a six-run burst that led the Colorado Rockies over the New York Mets 7-1.
