Santana cruises, Mets beat Cards to take series (AP)

New York Mets' Johan Santana reacts after delivering the last pitch of the game to St. Louis Cardinals' Joe Mather who flew out to center during the ninth inning of their baseball game at Shea Stadium in New York, Sunday, July 27, 2008.

Johan Santana took in six innings at Shea Stadium on Saturday night before heading home. He flipped on the TV and proceeded to watch the Mets‘ bullpen doggedly battle St. Louis into the 14th before finally succumbing. The two-time Cy Young Award winner woke up Sunday knowing exactly what he needed to do.

St. Louis Cardinals left fielder Skip Schumaker makes a diving catch on a line drive by New York Mets' Carlos Beltran during the 11th inning in Major League Baseball action on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Shea Stadium in New York. The Cardinals won 10-8 in 14 innings.

Albert Pujols snapped out of a funk with one big night. Tony La Russa hopes the Cardinals have done the same thing. Pujols hit a two-run homer in the 14th inning to match a career high with five hits, Skip Schumaker added a career-best six hits and St. Louis beat the New York Mets 10-8 Saturday to snap a season-worst five-game losing streak.
