Santana snaps Mets out of doldrums, beats Florida (AP)
Desperate for a psychological boost, the New York Mets had the right man on the mound. Johan Santana snapped the Mets out of their recent doldrums, pitching seven effective innings to beat the feisty Florida Marlins 5-3 Tuesday night. “He’s the guy that we look for to stop the bleeding, and that’s what he did tonight,” manager Willie Randolph said.
Pedro Martinez likely to rejoin Mets next week (AP)
Pedro Martinez is likely to rejoin the New York Mets‘ rotation early next week in San Francisco. On the disabled list nearly all season with a strained left hamstring, Martinez is scheduled to make a minor league rehab start Wednesday night for Class-A St. Lucie. If all goes well, his next outing probably will come during New York’s series June 2-4 against the Giants.
